Lieutenant General Kavita Sahai Appointed First Woman Commandant of Army Medical Corps Centre and College, Lucknow
Lucknow: Lieutenant General Kavita Sahai has scripted history by becoming the first woman commandant of the Army Medical Corps Centre and College in Lucknow. She takes charge succeeding Lt Gen V. Sabid Syed, who retired on January 29. Lt Gen Sahai, a decorated officer with Sena Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal to her credit, was previously serving as the additional DGAFMS (HR) at the office of the Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) in Delhi.
An alumna of the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, Lt Gen Sahai joined the Army Medical Corps in 1986. Her academic achievements include MD (pathology) and DNB (pathology) from AFMC, a fellowship in onychopathology from AIIMS Delhi, and a diploma in health professional education from FAIMER-Keele University, UK. Throughout her 37-year-long career, she held pivotal administrative and staff roles, contributing significantly to the medical field. Lt Gen Sahai, recognized for her extensive research contributions, has authored over 100 research papers published in national and international journals. Her meritorious services earned her the Chief of Army Staff Commendation in 2008 and 2012. She is married to Maj Gen (retd) Rajesh Sahai.
