Launch of 25T Bollard Pull Tug “Bhishm” Marks a Milestone in “Make in India” Initiative

Kolkata: The 25T Bollard Pull (BP) Tug named “Bhishm” reached a significant milestone as it was launched at M/s Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (M/s TRSL) in Kolkata. The launch ceremony was officiated by Cmde S Sreekumar, Warship Production Superintendent (Kolkata), on January 14, 2024. This Tug stands as a proud flag bearer of the “Make in India” initiative championed by the Government of India.

The construction and delivery contract for six 25T BP Tugs was successfully concluded with M/s TRSL, Kolkata, aligning with the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative of the Government of India. These Tugs are being meticulously built in adherence to the classification rules set by the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS).

The introduction of these Tugs is expected to significantly enhance the operational commitments of the Indian Navy. The Tugs will play a crucial role in providing assistance to Naval ships and submarines during berthing and un-berthing processes, as well as in turning and maneuvering in confined waters. Additionally, the Tugs will be equipped to offer afloat firefighting assistance to ships alongside and at anchorage. They will also have the capability to conduct limited Search and Rescue Operations, adding to their versatility and utility in various maritime scenarios.
