Kane Williamson Achieves Milestone with 31st Test Century against South Africa

Bay Oval: New Zealand’s premier Test batter, Kane Williamson, showcased his batting prowess by smashing his 31st Test century during the ongoing first Test against South Africa. Williamson’s brilliant knock of 109 not only marked a personal achievement but also contributed significantly to New Zealand’s commanding position in the match.

In a remarkable display of skill and determination, Williamson reached his century in the third innings of the match, becoming the joint second-fastest player to achieve this feat. He shares this distinction with Australia’s Steve Smith, both achieving it in 170 innings. Although narrowly missing out on Sachin Tendulkar’s record of reaching 31 centuries in 165 innings, Williamson’s consistency and class were on full display.

This century also marked a historic moment for the Kiwi captain as it was the first time he scored two centuries in the same Test match. His outstanding form continued from the first innings, where he scored 118 runs. Williamson now joins the elite list of New Zealand players who have achieved two centuries in a Test match, including Glenn Turner (1974), Geoff Howarth (1978), Andrew Jones (1991), and Peter Fulton (2013).

In the second innings, the 33-year-old delivered a spectacular performance, scoring 109 runs off 132 balls, including 12 fours and a towering six. His heroics propelled New Zealand to a dominant position as they reached stumps on Day 3 at 179/4, holding an overall lead of 528 runs with two days remaining in the Test match.
