Jharsuguda Sizzles at 41.4°C, Hottest in Odisha This Season

Bhubaneswar: Odisha recorded its highest temperature of the season as Jharsuguda topped the charts at 41.4 degrees Celsius, marking a sharp rise in mercury levels across the state, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Several other districts also experienced extreme heat, with Hirakud recording 40.1°C, followed by Sambalpur at 40°C and Rourkela at 39.5°C, said weather scientist Umashankar Dash.

In coastal Odisha, Bhubaneswar registered 38.2°C, while Chandbali and Balasore recorded 38°C and 37.5°C, respectively. Among the major towns, Keonjhar remained the coolest at 37.1°C, but the rising temperatures indicate the onset of an intense summer across the state.

With temperatures soaring, the IMD has urged people to take necessary precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours. The weather department also hinted at a possible further rise in temperature in the coming days, increasing the likelihood of heatwave conditions in several regions.
