ISRO Prepares for Launch of Advanced Meteorological Satellite, INSAT-3DS

Bengaluru: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to propel its cutting-edge meteorological satellite, INSAT-3DS, into space aboard the Geosynchronous Launch Vehicle (GSLV-F14) on January 25. The satellite, meticulously developed at the U R Rao Satellite Centre in Bengaluru for the Ministry of Earth Science (MoES), will play a pivotal role in advancing meteorological observations and monitoring of both land and ocean surfaces, facilitating improved weather forecasting and disaster warning capabilities.

In a statement, ISRO highlighted the satellite’s purpose, stating, “The satellite is designed for enhanced meteorological observations and monitoring of land and ocean surfaces for weather forecasting and disaster warning.”

Scheduled for liftoff in the first week of February, GSLV-F14 will serve as the reliable carrier for the INSAT-3DS mission. Senior officials from ISRO affirmed the preparedness for the upcoming launch.

The INSAT-3DS mission stands as a collaborative effort between ISRO and the India Meteorological Department, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to advancing climate services. This mission is part of a comprehensive series of climate observatory satellites, complementing three dedicated Earth observation satellites, including INSAT-3D and INSAT-3DR, already operational in orbit.

As ISRO continues to push the boundaries of space exploration and technology, the INSAT-3DS satellite represents a significant stride forward in bolstering India’s capabilities in meteorological research and disaster management.
