Iran Launches Unprecedented Drone and Missile Attack on Israel, Israeli Army Reports

Tensions in the Middle East have escalated as Iran launched more than 300 drones and missiles at Israel late Saturday in what the Israeli army described as an unprecedented attack. Israeli military spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari revealed that 99 percent of the launches were intercepted, with 170 drones and 30 cruise missiles being shot down before reaching Israeli territory. However, approximately 110 ballistic missiles did penetrate Israel’s defenses, resulting in injuries to 12 people.

The attack represents a significant intensification of the long-standing covert conflict between Iran and Israel. Following the assault, Iran issued a stern warning to Israel against any retaliatory action, threatening a larger-scale attack on Israeli territory. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi emphasized in a statement on Sunday that any “reckless behavior” from Israel or its supporters would be met with a “decisive and much stronger response.”

The warning was reiterated by Iranian military chief Major-General Mohammad Bagheri, who cautioned against Israeli retaliation and asserted that a “much larger” response awaited Israel if it chose to escalate tensions further. Bagheri declared that Iran considered the attack on Israel to have accomplished its objectives, signaling an end to the operation.

Additionally, Bagheri issued a direct warning to the United States, cautioning against supporting any Israeli retaliation. He asserted that any backing of Israeli actions by the US would result in Iran targeting American military bases.

The attack has heightened fears of a wider conflict in the region and raised concerns about the potential for further escalation. The Israeli government has yet to issue an official response to Iran’s warnings, but the situation remains tense as both sides assess the aftermath of the unprecedented assault.
