INSV Tarini Completes Challenging Phase of Navika Sagar Parikrama II, Reaches Port Stanley

Port Stanley: Indian Naval Sailing Vessel (INSV) Tarini successfully entered Port Stanley at 0515 IST on 18th February 2025, completing the third and most challenging phase of Navika Sagar Parikrama II, a pioneering expedition that showcases the resilience, courage, and skill of the Indian Navy’s women officers. This milestone marks a significant achievement in the vessel’s ongoing journey to circumnavigate the globe.

During this phase, INSV Tarini encountered extreme weather conditions, including three cyclones, while navigating through the treacherous waters of the Drake Passage and crossing Cape Horn. The crew also passed through Point Nemo, known as the Oceanic Pole of Inaccessibility, adding another layer of challenge to their voyage. Despite these formidable obstacles, the crew’s determination and skill ensured the successful completion of this critical leg of the expedition.

The Navika Sagar Parikrama II initiative underscores the Indian Navy’s commitment to gender empowerment and maritime excellence. Crewed by two women officers, the expedition aims to promote ocean sailing, self-reliance, and celebrate India’s rich maritime heritage. The officers’ journey serves as a powerful inspiration for young aspirants, particularly women, to pursue careers in the maritime and defence sectors.

The voyage began in Goa, India, and has already navigated the Indian, Atlantic, and Pacific Oceans, demonstrating the crew’s resilience in facing harsh sea conditions. Their safe arrival at Port Stanley is a testament to India’s growing maritime presence and its commitment to fostering global goodwill through Naval diplomacy.

Upon reaching Port Stanley, the crew of INSV Tarini is expected to engage with the local community, sharing insights about their voyage, the challenges they faced, and India’s Naval traditions. Their interaction with the local population will further strengthen the bonds of maritime cooperation and mutual understanding between India and the international community.

After its stop in Port Stanley, INSV Tarini will continue its journey towards Cape Town before heading back to India, marking the final leg of this extraordinary expedition. This venture not only reinforces India’s commitment to enhancing global maritime cooperation but also embodies the spirit of adventure, resilience, and gender equality.
