India’s Male Archers Shine in Paris Olympic Games, Advance to Team Quarterfinals

Paris: India’s male archers delivered a commendable performance in the individual rankings round at the Paris Olympic Games, securing third place in the ranking round for the Team Competition and earning a spot in the quarterfinals scheduled for July 29. The trio of Tarundeep Rai, Dhiraj Bommadevara, and Pravin Jadhav accumulated a total score of 2013, positioning them strongly for a semifinal bid.

Dhiraj Bommadevara led the charge with an impressive fourth-place finish in the men’s individual ranking round, while veteran archer Tarundeep Rai secured the 14th spot and Pravin Jadhav placed 39th. Bommadevara’s stellar performance included 39 arrows in the 10s zone and 14 bullseyes, culminating in a score of 681. Rai achieved a score of 674 with 31 10s and nine Xs, and Jadhav, despite a challenging round, managed a score of 658 with 25 10s and eight bullseyes.

All three archers will compete in the Round of 64, with Bommadevara, Rai, and Jadhav aiming to advance further in the individual events.

In the Mixed Team competition, the Indian duo of Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara also excelled, finishing fifth in the rankings round with a total score of 1347. Their strong performance has secured them a place in the pre-quarterfinals, set to take place on August 2.

The competition saw a remarkable display from the Republic of Korea, with Lim Sih-Yeong setting a new World Record in the women’s ranking round. Kim Woo-Jin topped the men’s ranking round with a score of 686, contributing to a new Olympic record in the mixed team ranking round with a combined score of 1380, surpassing the previous record of 1368 set by Korea in Tokyo.

As the Indian archers prepare for their upcoming matches, their impressive rankings and consistent performances have set a hopeful tone for further success in the Paris Olympic Games.
