Indian Women’s Hockey Team Faces Coaching Transition as Janneke Schopman Resigns

New Delhi: Janneke Schopman, the Chief Coach of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team, tendered her resignation today. The Dutch coach submitted her letter of resignation to Hockey India President Padma Dr. Dilip Tirkey after the completion of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team’s performance in the FIH Hockey Pro League home leg in Odisha.

Schopman assumed the role following former Chief Coach Sjoerd Marine, under whose guidance India achieved a historic fourth position at the Tokyo Olympics. However, her resignation follows the disappointment of the recent Olympic Qualifiers.

The departure of Janneke Schopman opens the door for Hockey India to search for a suitable Chief Coach to lead the Women’s Hockey Team, with a focus on preparing for the upcoming Women’s World Cup in 2026 and the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.

This transition marks the beginning of a new chapter in Indian women’s hockey, with a renewed emphasis on the progress and development of the players.
