Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron Arrives in Vietnam to Strengthen Maritime Ties

Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam: In a significant step towards enhancing maritime cooperation, INS Tir and ICGS Veera of the First Training Squadron of the Indian Navy arrived at Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam today. The visiting ships were warmly welcomed by the Vietnam People’s Navy and members of the Indian diplomatic mission, marking another milestone in the growing strategic partnership between the two nations.

The port visit aims to bolster maritime ties and deepen training exchanges between the navies of India and Vietnam. During their stay, Indian naval personnel will engage in cross-training visits, professional exchanges, and community interactions, including a visit to the Vietnam Naval Academy. These activities are designed to foster knowledge-sharing and promote greater understanding between the two naval forces.

The visit will culminate in bilateral maritime exercises between the Indian Navy, Vietnam People’s Navy, and the Vietnam Coast Guard. These drills will enhance interoperability and facilitate the exchange of best practices, further strengthening the operational coordination between the two maritime forces.

India and Vietnam share a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which was further reinforced during the Vietnamese Prime Minister’s visit to India in August 2024. This ongoing visit by the First Training Squadron underscores India’s commitment to deepening maritime cooperation and training exchanges with Vietnam. The deployment also aligns with India’s broader initiative to enhance regional maritime security and capacity-building efforts, in line with the vision of Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR).
