Indian Navy Marks Milestone with Steel Cutting Ceremony for Third Cadet Training Ship

New Delhi: The Indian Navy reached a significant milestone with the steel cutting ceremony of the third Cadet Training Ship (Yard-18005) held at M/s L&T Shipyard, Kattupalli, on April 20, 2024. The ceremony was presided over by Shri Giridhar Aramane, Defence Secretary, in the presence of Mr. Arun Ramchandani, Executive Vice President of L&T Precision Engineering & System, and other senior officials from the Indian Navy and M/s L&T.

The contract for the indigenous design and construction of three Cadet Training Ships was concluded between the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and M/s L&T in March 2023. These ships are part of the Indian Navy’s efforts to enhance its training infrastructure and capabilities.

The Cadet Training Ships will play a crucial role in training officer cadets at sea following their basic training ashore. Additionally, these ships will extend training facilities to cadets from friendly foreign countries, fostering international cooperation and collaboration in maritime education and training.

The vessels are expected to be delivered to the Indian Navy starting September 2026.
