Indian Navy Launches Sixth Missile Cum Ammunition Barge, Strengthening Operational Capabilities

Mira Bhayandar, Maharashtra: The Indian Navy took a significant step forward in bolstering its logistical support with the launch of the Missile Cum Ammunition Barge, LSAM 12 (Yard 80), the sixth vessel in a series of eight barges designed for the Navy’s operational needs. The barge was launched by Cmde MV Raj Krishna, CoY(Mbi), during a ceremony held at M/s Vinayaga Marine Petro Ltd in Mira Bhayandar, Maharashtra, the launch site of M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd (SEPPL).

The barges, constructed by M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd under a contract signed with the Ministry of Defence on February 19, 2021, are intended to support the Indian Navy’s transportation, embarkation, and disembarkation of ammunition and essential articles to naval platforms, both at jetties and outer harbors. These barges will play a crucial role in enhancing the Navy’s operational readiness by ensuring the efficient delivery of supplies.

The Missile Cum Ammunition Barges are designed and built entirely in India, adhering to Naval Rules and Regulations of the Indian Register of Shipping. As part of the Make in India initiative, the design underwent extensive testing at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory in Visakhapatnam, showcasing India’s growing capabilities in indigenous shipbuilding.
