Bharuch: Commodore Rajat Nagar, Western Naval Command (WPS – Mbi), launched the 25T Bollard Pull (BP) Tug named “Baljeet” at M/s Shoft Shipyard Pvt Ltd in Bharuch, Gujarat, on March 10. This state-of-the-art tug is a testament to the “Make in India” initiative championed by the Government of India.
The launch ceremony marked a milestone in the collaboration between the Indian Navy and M/s Shoft Shipyard Pvt Ltd (M/s SSPL), a Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME). The contract for the construction and delivery of three 25T BP Tugs was sealed, aligning with the principles of the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative, which emphasizes self-reliance and indigenous manufacturing.
The Tugs are being constructed under the strict adherence to the classification rules of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), ensuring high standards of safety and performance. These powerful Tugs are poised to play a crucial role in supporting the operational commitments of the Indian Navy by aiding naval ships and submarines during berthing and un-berthing processes, as well as maneuvering in confined waters.
The 25T BP Tugs, including the recently launched “Baljeet,” are anticipated to enhance the Navy’s firefighting capabilities, providing essential assistance to ships alongside and at anchorage. Moreover, these Tugs will be equipped to conduct limited Search and Rescue Operations, further strengthening the Indian Navy’s ability to respond to emergencies at sea.
The successful collaboration between the Indian Navy and M/s Shoft Shipyard Pvt Ltd underscores the commitment to fostering domestic shipbuilding capabilities and advancing the nation’s maritime prowess. As the Tugs undergo further testing and trials, their induction into the naval fleet promises to bolster the security and operational efficiency of the Indian Navy in the region.
This launch signifies not only a technological achievement but also a step forward in realizing the vision of a self-reliant and robust maritime industry in India, aligned with the overarching goals of the country’s strategic initiatives. The “Baljeet” and her sister Tugs stand as proud symbols of innovation, resilience, and the spirit of “Make in India.”
