Indian Naval Ships Strengthen Bilateral Ties During Visit to Singapore

Singapore: Indian Naval Ships Delhi, Shakti, and Kiltan embarked on a significant visit to Singapore from 6th to 9th May 2024, as part of the Operational Deployment of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet to the South China Sea. The visit aimed at fostering bilateral engagements, discussing areas of mutual interest and cooperation, and reaffirming the commitment to enhance maritime security and stability in the region.

During the visit, Rear Admiral Rajesh Dhankhar, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, along with the Commanding Officers of the ships, engaged in discussions with the Fleet Commander of the Republic of Singapore Navy at the Singapore Naval Headquarters. The interactions focused on enhancing naval cooperation and interoperability between the Indian and Singaporean navies.

A highlight of the visit was the deck reception hosted onboard INS Shakti, where personnel from both navies, the Indian diaspora in Singapore, and members of the local diplomatic community came together to strengthen bonds of friendship and mutual respect.

In line with the Indian Navy’s commitment to maritime education and outreach, local school children were invited to visit the Indian ships. These guided tours provided an opportunity for the children to learn about naval operations, India’s rich maritime history and heritage, and the importance of maritime security. Such interactions aim to inspire the younger generation and promote a deeper understanding of maritime affairs.

Moreover, personnel from both the Indian Navy and the Republic of Singapore Navy participated in cross-ship visits and Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE), along with other professional interactions. These engagements underscored the mutual desire to strengthen maritime cooperation and collaboration between the two nations.
