Indian Naval Ship Kiltan Visits Brunei to Strengthen Maritime Ties

Muara, Brunei: Indian Naval Ship Kiltan arrived at Muara Port, Brunei, as part of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet operational deployment to the South China Sea. The visit underscored India’s commitment to strengthening relations with Brunei and enhancing maritime cooperation between the two nations.

The port call featured a series of professional interactions, cross-deck visits, and cultural exchanges. INS Kiltan opened its decks to visitors, including members of the Indian diaspora and personnel from the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN). Visitors were briefed on the ship’s capabilities, India’s indigenous shipbuilding expertise, and its rich maritime heritage. The visit highlighted India’s advanced shipbuilding and showcased the nation’s prowess in creating state-of-the-art naval vessels.

To foster camaraderie, a friendly volleyball match was held between the personnel of the Indian Navy and the Royal Brunei Navy. The sports event served as a platform to build stronger bonds and mutual respect between the two naval forces.

INS Kiltan also participated in the India-Brunei Maritime Partnership Exercise (IN-RBN). The exercise aimed to enhance mutual understanding of each other’s naval tactics, techniques, and procedures, thereby reinforcing interoperability and cooperation. Such exercises are crucial for ensuring smooth coordination during joint operations and for maintaining regional maritime security.

The successful completion of this port call aligns with India’s ‘Act East’ policy and its SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) initiative. These policies emphasize India’s dedication to peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.

This visit by INS Kiltan to Brunei not only strengthens bilateral relations but also reaffirms India’s role as a key player in maintaining maritime security in the region. It underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing common challenges and promoting shared interests in the maritime domain.
