Indian Delegation Affirms Commitment to Global Education Agenda at Brazilian G20 Presidency Meeting

New Delhi: The inaugural day of the first Education Working Group (EdWG) meeting under the  Brazilian G20 Presidency witnessed the Indian delegation reiterating the government’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the global education agenda. Held virtually, the meeting brought together key stakeholders to discuss and prioritize initiatives aimed at fostering innovation, inclusivity, and collaboration in education.

The Indian delegation emphasized the importance of capacity building for educational professionals, innovative teaching-learning processes, and emerging trends in technology-enabled learning. The discussions revolved around making tech-enabled learning more inclusive, qualitative, and collaborative at every level of education. The delegation also underscored the crucial role of education in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly through the LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) initiative.

Sharing insights on priorities, senior Ministry officials from the Indian delegation highlighted the country’s best practices guided by the National Education Policy 2020. Key initiatives showcased included SWAYAM, SWAYAM PRABHA, Academic Bank of Credit, SAMARTH, National Professional Standards for Teachers, 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme, DIKSHA, NISHTHA, Malviya Mission Teacher Training Programme, National Mission for Mentoring, and industry collaboration for training courses in emerging technologies.

As part of the EdWG track, Brazil identified three priorities for the meeting deliberations:

  1. Valuing and Building Capacity of Education Professionals: Focused on collective actions to enhance the capabilities of education professionals.
  2. Connecting Managers of Digital Resource Platforms: Emphasizing the sharing of education material for Education for Sustainable Development.
  3. The G20 Award for School-Community Engagement: Recognizing and promoting exemplary school-community engagement initiatives.

The first day laid the foundation for comprehensive discussions, with the meeting scheduled to continue on February 6, 2024. The upcoming discussions will center on the second and third priorities, focusing on digital resource platforms and the G20 Award for School-Community Engagement. The collaborative efforts of nations in these meetings aim to shape a global education agenda that fosters positive change and inclusivity.
