Indian Coast Guard on High Alert as Cyclone Dana Approaches; Preventive Measures in Place

As Cyclone Dana is forecast to make landfall along the coasts of West Bengal and Odisha on October 24-25, 2024, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Region (North-East) has implemented a series of preventive actions to ensure the safety of lives and property at sea. With the cyclone intensifying, the ICG has been closely monitoring the situation and proactively preparing for any emergency response needed in the aftermath.

In anticipation of the cyclone’s impact, ICG ships, aircraft, and Remote Operating Stations in West Bengal and Odisha have been broadcasting continuous weather warnings and safety advisories to fishermen and mariners. These alerts urge all fishing vessels to return to shore immediately and seek safe shelter. The ICG is committed to preventing any loss of life by ensuring that these safety messages reach every fishing community in the region.

To bolster preparedness, the ICG has mobilized its vessels and aircraft, strategically positioning them to respond swiftly to any emergencies that may arise during or after the cyclone. Additionally, ICG personnel are coordinating closely with local administrations and disaster management authorities to ensure a unified and effective response.

Fishing communities along the coastline have been informed through various channels, including village heads, to avoid venturing into the sea until the cyclone subsides. The Coast Guard has placed its disaster relief teams and assets on high alert, ready to conduct rescue and relief operations as required.
