Indian Army Enhances Bridging Capability with Induction of 46-Meter Modular Bridge

New Delhi:  In a significant stride towards bolstering its bridging capabilities, the Indian Army marked a milestone today with the formal induction of the 46-meter Modular Bridge. Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and produced by Larsen & Toubro (L&T), the advanced bridging system was handed over in a ceremony held at the prestigious Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi. The event witnessed the presence of General Manoj Pande, Chief of the Army Staff, along with senior dignitaries from the Indian Army, DRDO, and the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

The state-of-the-art bridging system, designed to overcome obstacles such as canals and ditches, is a mechanistically launched single-span, fully decked 46-meter assault bridge. With a total of 41 sets set to be progressively inducted over the next four years, the project holds a value of Rs 2,585 Crores. The induction of these bridges is expected to significantly augment the crucial bridging capability of the Indian Army Engineers.

The 46-meter Modular Bridge is characterized by its high mobility, ruggedness, and quick deployment and retrieval features. This aligns seamlessly with the dynamic and fast-paced nature of mechanized operations, providing the Indian Army with a strategic advantage in overcoming challenging terrains and obstacles swiftly and efficiently.

Speaking at the ceremony, General Manoj Pande highlighted the importance of this induction in enhancing the operational capabilities of the Indian Army. He emphasized the bridge’s role in providing the army with a tactical advantage during mechanized operations, allowing for swift and secure passage across various obstacles.

The collaboration between DRDO and L&T in the development and production of this cutting-edge bridging system underscores the commitment of Indian defense entities towards advancing indigenous technological capabilities. The modular bridge’s successful induction is a testament to the prowess of Indian defense research and manufacturing, contributing to the overall strength and preparedness of the Indian Armed Forces.

As the Indian Army continues to modernize and upgrade its capabilities, the 46-meter Modular Bridge stands out as a crucial asset that will play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of future operations, particularly in challenging terrains and scenarios.
