Indian Army Contingent Arrives in Egypt for Joint Special Forces Exercise CYCLONE

Anshas: In a demonstration of strengthening military cooperation, a contingent of 25 Indian Army personnel has reached Egypt to participate in the 2nd edition of the India-Egypt Joint Special Forces Exercise CYCLONE. The exercise is scheduled to take place at Anshas, Egypt, from January 22nd to February 1st, 2024. This joint exercise follows the successful completion of the first edition held in India last year.

Representing India, the contingent includes troops from The Parachute Regiment (Special Forces), while the Egyptian contingent consists of 25 personnel from the Egyptian Commando Squadron and Egyptian Airborne Platoon.

The primary aim of Exercise CYCLONE is to familiarize both sides with each other’s operating procedures, particularly in the context of special operations in desert and semi-desert terrains under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. The exercise is designed to enhance bilateral military cooperation and strengthen the bond between the Indian and Egyptian armies through discussions and the rehearsal of tactical military drills.

The exercise will be conducted in three phases. The first phase involves military exhibitions and tactical interactions, the second phase focuses on training in Improvised Explosive Device (IED) countermeasures and Combat First Aid, while the third and final phase comprises a Joint Tactical Exercise centered around fighting in built-up areas and hostage rescue scenarios.

Exercise CYCLONE serves as a valuable platform for both contingents to share best practices, strengthen their mutual understanding, and achieve shared security objectives. It is expected to foster camaraderie and enhance bilateral relations between the two friendly nations.
