New Delhi: In a tribute to the valour and sacrifices of the heroes of the Kargil War, the Indian Army has embarked on a Pan-India Motorcycle Expedition to commemorate the 25th anniversary of India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil War. This expedition aims to highlight the significant contributions and honor the legacy of our brave soldiers.
The expedition began today with three teams, each comprising eight motorcyclists, starting their journey from different corners of the country: Dinjan in the East, Dwarka in the West, and Dhanushkodi in the South. These riders will traverse diverse terrains and challenging routes, symbolizing the unity and resilience of the Armed Forces. Along their journey, the riders will connect with Kargil War heroes, veterans, and Veer Naris (war widows) residing along their routes. They will also pay homage at various war memorials, raise awareness, and encourage youth to join the Indian Army.
Eastern Route
The Eastern Route team will travel from Dinjan to Delhi, passing through Jorhat, Guwahati, Binaguri, Katihar, Danapur, Gorakhpur, Lucknow, and Agra, covering approximately 2,489 kilometers.
Western Route
The Western Route team will journey from Dwarka to Delhi, covering 1,565 kilometers via Dhrangadhra, Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Jaipur, and Alwar.
Southern Route
The Southern Route team will traverse from Dhanushkodi to Delhi, covering 2,963 kilometers through Madurai, Coimbatore, Bengaluru, Anantapur, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Bhopal, Gwalior, and Alwar.
The teams are set to converge in Delhi on June 26th and will then proceed along two different routes to Dras. One route will go through Ambala, Amritsar, Jammu, Udhampur, and Srinagar, covering 1,085 kilometers, while the other will travel via Chandimandir, Manali, Sarchu, Nyoma, Tangtse, and Leh, covering 1,509 kilometers. The expedition will culminate at Gun Hill in Dras, a location of strategic importance during the Kargil War.
Flag-off and flag-in ceremonies will be held at prominent locations with the presence of eminent dignitaries, including senior military officials, veterans, Veer Naris, and distinguished guests. These ceremonies will recognize and encourage the riders and the noble cause they represent. Kargil War veterans and Veer Naris will also be felicitated, acknowledging their sacrifices and unwavering support during the war.
The expedition is being led by the Regiment of Artillery, which played a pivotal role in ensuring success in Operation Vijay. The precision, firepower, and strategic support of the Artillery were vital in turning the tide in favor of the Indian Armed Forces.
