Indian Army Commemorates General Sundarji’s Legacy with 4th Memorial Lecture

New Delhi: The Indian Army paid tribute to the eminent military strategist, General K Sundarji, with the 4th General Sundarji Memorial Lecture held at the Manekshaw Centre. Organized by the Mechanised Infantry Centre & School (MIC&S) and the Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS), the event brought together serving and retired officers from all three Services, alongside scholars and think tanks.

General Manoj Pande, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), delivered the keynote address, highlighting General Sundarji’s visionary contributions to military strategy. Known as the ‘Father of the Mechanised Infantry Regiment’, General Sundarji’s legacy looms large in Indian military history.

COAS Pande emphasized General Sundarji’s forward-looking perspective, particularly his insights into digitization of the battlefield, Information Warfare, and modernization strategies. He referenced General Sundarji’s seminal work, ‘Vision 2100’, which laid out a roadmap for India’s military transformation.

Speaking on the imperative of transformation, COAS Pande stated, “The Indian Army is committed to progressive transformation, aiming for a modern, agile, and self-reliant force. Our ongoing holistic transformation reflects our dedication to shaping a future-ready military.”

The event also featured esteemed speakers such as Shri NN Vohra, former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, who shared personal anecdotes and emphasized the need for a robust National Security Policy. Lieutenant General Subrata Saha (Retired), former Deputy Chief of Army Staff, and Member of the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB), provided insights on modernizing India’s Armed Forces, drawing lessons from General Sundarji’s legacy.
