Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi Assumes Command as Chief of the Naval Staff

New Delhi: Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, PVSM, AVSM, NM, assumed command of the Indian Navy on 30 April 2024, succeeding Admiral R Hari Kumar, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC, upon his retirement. Admiral Tripathi, the 26th Chief of the Naval Staff, brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise garnered over nearly four decades of dedicated service in the Indian Navy.

An alumnus of Sainik School Rewa and the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Admiral Tripathi was commissioned into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy on 1st July 1985. Throughout his illustrious career, he has held a variety of crucial operational and staff appointments, showcasing his leadership and strategic acumen.

Admiral Tripathi is renowned as a Communication and Electronic Warfare specialist, having served on frontline warships in various capacities, including Signal Communication Officer and Electronic Warfare Officer. His sea commands include INS Vinash, INS Kirch, and INS Trishul, where he demonstrated exemplary leadership and operational prowess.

Furthermore, Admiral Tripathi has held key staff appointments, such as Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet at Mumbai, Director of Naval Operations, and Principal Director Naval Plans at New Delhi. His contributions to the Indian Navy extend to his role as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Policy and Plans) at NHQ and as the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet.

Admiral Tripathi’s commitment to excellence is underscored by his extensive training, including courses at Signal School, Kochi, Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, and Naval Command College at the United States Naval War College.

Prior to assuming command as Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Tripathi served as the Vice Chief of Naval Staff, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the Navy’s strategic direction and operational readiness.
