Benoni: In a nail-biting encounter at Willowmoore Park, India’s Under-19 cricket team emerged victorious against South Africa in the semi-final of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2024, securing a two-wicket win and booking their spot in the final.

Sachin Dhas played a pivotal role in India’s chase of 245 runs, falling just four runs short of a century with a blistering knock of 96 off 95 balls. Captain Uday Saharan also contributed significantly with an impressive 81, forming a crucial 71-run partnership for the fifth wicket. The duo’s resilience guided India through a challenging phase after they were reduced to 36/4 within the first 12 overs.

The contest reached its climax when Saharan was run out with just one run required for victory. South Africa’s Kwena Maphaka put up a spirited effort, claiming the crucial wicket of Dhas and adding pressure on the Indian side. However, India managed to cross the finish line despite losing a couple more wickets towards the end.

The South African bowlers, led by Tristan Luus and Kwena Maphaka, fought hard, with Luus scalping three wickets. Despite the efforts, they couldn’t prevent India from reaching the target, and the visitors secured their fifth consecutive berth in the Under-19 World Cup final.

Earlier in the day, South Africa posted a competitive total of 244/7 in their 50 overs, thanks to notable contributions from Lhuan-dre Pretorius (76) and Richard Seletswane (64). Tristan Luus played a crucial cameo, scoring an unbeaten 26 runs in the dying overs.

India’s bowling effort was spearheaded by Raj Limbani, who claimed three vital wickets, including those of Steve Stolk, David Teeger, and Juan James. Musheer Khan picked up two wickets, while Soumy Pandye and Naman Tiwari chipped in with a wicket each.

With this hard-fought victory, India sets the stage for an exciting final as they aim for their record ninth U19 World Cup title. The cricketing world now eagerly awaits the clash between India and their yet-to-be-determined opponent in the U19 World Cup 2024 final.
