New Delhi: In a strong reaffirmation of their deepening defence ties, Raksha MantriRajnath Singh held a bilateral meeting with Japanese Minister of Defense Gen Nakatani at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi today. The two leaders reviewed the evolving security landscape, condemned terrorism in all its forms, and committed to intensifying defence cooperation under the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.

Both sides emphasized the urgent need for global cooperation against terrorism, with Rajnath Singh particularly denouncing Pakistan’s continued policy of cross-border terrorism, describing it as a threat to regional peace and security. He called for a unified global stance against state-sponsored terrorism, asserting that both state and non-state actors involved must be held accountable.

Nakatani extended condolences for the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, and expressed Japan’s full solidarity and support to India in combating terrorism.

The two Ministers conducted a comprehensive review of defence and security cooperation, expressing satisfaction over the increasing frequency and diversity of joint military exercises and exchanges. They agreed to expand the scope and complexity of future engagements, especially in the maritime domain. Enhancing maritime security and cooperation emerged as a major focus, with both sides acknowledging the strategic significance of Indo-Pacific stability.

Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh showcased the growing strength of the Indian defence manufacturing ecosystem, highlighting its capabilities in tank engines, aero engines, and Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) operations. He proposed deeper industrial collaboration, particularly in automation and Artificial Intelligence, as well as emerging areas such as cybersecurity and space.

Both nations pledged to advance their defence industry linkages and explore joint development opportunities in cutting-edge technologies, marking a new phase in their strategic partnership.

The bilateral dialogue concluded with a mutual commitment to enhance defence cooperation and build on the momentum generated since the elevation of ties to a Special Strategic & Global Partnership in 2014.

Earlier in the day, Minister Gen Nakatani paid tribute at the National War Memorial, laying a wreath in honour of India’s fallen soldiers. He was also accorded a ceremonial Tri-Services Guard of Honour at the Manekshaw Centre, underscoring the warmth and mutual respect in India-Japan defence relations.
