India Hosts First Nano Electronics Roadshow, Showcasing Semiconductor Innovations

Bengaluru: India’s semiconductor ecosystem took a significant leap forward as the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in collaboration with IISc Bengaluru and leading IITs, successfully hosted the country’s first Nano Electronics Roadshow at the National Science Seminar Complex, IISc Bengaluru. The event was inaugurated by Shri S Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, alongside Shri Abhishek Singh, Additional Secretary, MeitY.

The roadshow marked a milestone in India’s journey towards a self-reliant semiconductor industry, highlighting over 100 intellectual properties (IPs), 50 groundbreaking technologies, and 35 promising startups. These innovations stem from six state-of-the-art Nano Centers established by MeitY across the nation.

In alignment with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, the conference underscored India’s technological leadership in the semiconductor and electronics domain. Over 700 industry leaders, policymakers, and academics gathered to explore collaborative strategies to strengthen India’s nanoelectronics ecosystem.

Addressing the audience, Shri S. Krishnan emphasized the role of MeitY’s Nano Centers in fostering innovation and talent development. “This event is a testament to the ministry’s commitment to convergence and industry-academia collaboration. With nearly 70-75% of investments in major semiconductor facilities coming from taxpayer money, every Indian is a stakeholder in this mission,” he stated. He further highlighted that India’s semiconductor demand, currently at $45-50 billion, is expected to reach $100-110 billion by 2030.

Shri Abhishek Singh, Additional Secretary, MeitY, reflected on the transformative impact of technology and shrinking global tech barriers. “Under the India AI mission and initiatives like the INUP program, startups and researchers are addressing real-world challenges, positioning India as a leader in technological advancements,” he noted.

The event featured 48 cutting-edge technology demonstrations by students from Nano Centers, bridging research with practical applications. It also served as a catalyst for crucial industry dialogues, fostering stronger ties between academia and startups to accelerate the commercialization of innovative technologies.

A key highlight of the roadshow was the signing of four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to propel industry-academia partnerships:

  • IISc with KAS Technologies and Antigone Solutions Private Limited
  • Center for Nano Science and Engineering with India Electronics & Semiconductor Association (IESA)
  • Madnani Chemdist Novatech LLP with Primary Healthtech Private Limited

The roadshow celebrated pioneering startups that are driving transformational change in the semiconductor domain. These startups showcased innovative solutions with the potential to revolutionize India’s technology landscape.

The event brought together government officials, industry leaders, researchers, and startups, serving as a catalyst for India’s next big leap in technology and innovation.

The Nano Electronics Roadshow stands as a testament to India’s growing prowess in semiconductor technology, paving the way for the development of indigenous solutions to address critical societal challenges.
