India Clinches Two Medals at Asian Wrestling Championships 2024

New Delhi: India’s wrestling contingent continues to make waves at the ongoing Asian Wrestling Championships 2024 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, securing two more medals on the third day of the prestigious tournament.

In a remarkable display of skill and determination, 23-year-old wrestler Radhika claimed a silver medal in the women’s 68kg category, while Shivanee Pawar added to India’s medal haul by securing a bronze in the women’s 50kg weight class.

Radhika’s journey to the silver medal included impressive victories over formidable opponents. She defeated Albina Kairgeldinova of Kazakhstan and Gulnura Tashtanbekova of Kyrgyzstan in the earlier rounds to advance to the final. However, in a closely contested final match, Radhika faced tough competition from reigning world champion Nonoka Ozaki of Japan, ultimately settling for the silver medal.

Meanwhile, Shivanee Pawar showcased her prowess on the wrestling mat with a stellar performance in the women’s 50kg category. Pawar exhibited her skills and determination, securing a bronze medal by defeating Dolgorjavyn Otgonjargal of Mongolia in the bronze medal match.

Despite commendable efforts, wrestlers Pushpa Yadav and Priya faced tough challenges in their respective bronze medal matches in the 59kg and 76kg weight categories, narrowly missing out on podium finishes.

With these latest additions, India’s total medal tally at the Asian Wrestling Championships 2024 now stands at an impressive five medals. Earlier in the tournament, Udit secured a silver medal, while Abhimanyu and Vicky clinched bronze medals in the men’s freestyle divisions, showcasing the depth and talent of India’s wrestling contingent on the international stage.
