Their stunning 5-1 win over defending champions Japan not only earned them the coveted Gold medal but also solidified their presence at the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Indian team’s offensive prowess was on full display as Harmanpreet, with goals in the 32nd and 59th minutes from penalty corners, led the charge. Amit Rohidas added to the scoreboard with a successful set-piece in the 36th minute. Manpreet Singh (25th) and Abhishek (48th) contributed field goals, further cementing India’s dominance.
Japan’s Seren Tanaka converted a penalty corner in the 51st minute, showcasing a brief resistance.
Harmanpreet emerged as India’s top scorer in the tournament, tallying an impressive 13 goals, one ahead of striker Mandeep Singh.
This victory concluded India’s unbeaten run in the tournament, highlighting their superiority over Japan, whom they had previously defeated 4-2 in the pool stages.
