India Celebrates International Sun Day with ‘Run for Sun’ Marathon and Solar Awareness Campaigns

New Delhi: On the occasion of International Sun Day, the Government of India reaffirmed its commitment to solar energy and environmental sustainability through a series of engaging initiatives aimed at raising awareness about the benefits of solar power. Organized by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), the nation observed this significant day with fervor and enthusiasm, emphasizing the pivotal role of solar energy in combating climate change and building a cleaner, healthier future.

One of the key highlights of the celebrations was the ‘Run for Sun’ Marathon held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. The marathon, featuring 3 km and 5 km races, drew participants from all walks of life, symbolizing the nation’s collective dedication to promoting renewable energy solutions. Speaking at the event, Shri Bhupinder S. In addition to the marathon, the International Sun Day celebrations featured Solar Stops set up at prominent malls in six Indian cities, including Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Vadodara, Guwahati, Varanasi, and Chennai. These Solar Stops showcased a variety of installations highlighting the innovative and eco-friendly aspects of solar energy, providing citizens with an opportunity to learn and engage with the displays.

Furthermore, the Ministry announced the launch of Solart, an All-India Intra-School Solar Art Competition, aimed at fostering creativity and awareness of solar energy among school students across the country. Through artistic expressions, students will have the opportunity to celebrate the importance of solar power and contribute to the promotion of renewable energy.
