India and US Strengthen Agricultural Ties: Key Areas Explored for Collaboration

New Delhi: Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW), today welcomed a high-level delegation from the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA), USA, at Krishi Bhawan. The meeting focused on fostering deeper collaboration in critical areas of agriculture to enhance sustainability and productivity.

The discussions highlighted key areas for cooperation, including Climate-Smart Agriculture, Agricultural Productivity Growth, Agricultural Innovation, Forecasting and Production Reporting, Crop Risk Protection, and Agricultural Credit. These areas aim to address contemporary challenges faced by the agricultural sector, ensuring long-term growth and resilience.

Several specific areas of discussion were Cold Chain Management for fruits and vegetables, Voluntary Carbon Credit Initiatives, Precision Agriculture utilizing Artificial Intelligence and advanced technologies, and Investment Opportunities in Food Processing Industries. Additionally, Crop Insurance, Capacity Building, and cooperation in agriculture statistics were emphasized as essential components for strengthening the partnership.

The US delegation, led by Mr. Wesley Ward, President of NASDA, included Ms. Martha Van Dale, Chief Operating Officer, and Mr. W. Garth Thorburn from the US Embassy. Representing India were Dr. P.K. Meherda, Additional Secretary (DAFW), along with senior officials from the Ministry, including the Joint Secretaries for NRM/IC and PMFBY/PP, the Horticulture Commissioner, and the Additional Director General of ICAR.

Dr. Chaturvedi highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating, “Our discussions today reflect a shared commitment to driving innovation and enhancing agricultural practices. By combining our expertise, we can achieve substantial advancements in sustainable agriculture and benefit both nations.”
