India Achieves Milestone as WADA Approves NDTL as Athlete Passport Management Unit

New Delhi: In a significant achievement for India’s anti-doping efforts, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has approved the National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL) in New Delhi as an Athlete Passport Management Unit (APMU). The recognition, granted on December 6, 2024, allows NDTL to manage the Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) program.

The Athlete Biological Passport is an advanced tool used to monitor athletes’ biological markers over time, analyzing variations in blood and steroid profiles to detect possible doping violations. This system not only ensures fair play but also protects the integrity of clean athletes worldwide.

India now joins an elite group of 17 APMUs globally that are approved by WADA. Beyond serving athletes in India, the NDTL’s APMU will extend its services to anti-doping organizations in neighboring countries, bolstering regional efforts in the fight against doping.

“This recognition is a matter of immense pride for India and for the NDTL,” said a senior official at the laboratory. “It not only strengthens our nation’s position in global anti-doping initiatives but also opens new pathways for collaboration and credibility.”
