Nepal Army Chief Meets Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Discusses Strengthening Bilateral Defence Cooperation

New Delhi: Nepal’s Chief of Army Staff, General Ashok Raj Sigdel, met with India’s Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, in New Delhi today to discuss key aspects of the robust bilateral defence ties between the two neighboring nations.

During the meeting, Rajnath Singh highlighted the diverse dimensions of defence cooperation between India and Nepal. These include training programs, joint military exercises, workshops, seminars, and the supply of defence equipment to enhance the operational capability of the Nepal Army.

The Defence Minister expressed satisfaction with the strong ties between the two countries, noting that India and Nepal share common perspectives on many issues of mutual concern. He reiterated India’s commitment to strengthening relations with its neighbors under the ‘Neighborhood First Policy’, emphasizing the importance of fostering closer collaboration with Nepal.

Rajnath Singh congratulated General Ashok Raj Sigdel on being conferred the Honorary rank of General of the Indian Army, a gesture that symbolizes the deep-rooted and historical ties between the armed forces of the two nations.

General Sigdel is on a four-day official visit to India. The visit aims to further solidify defence cooperation and explore new avenues for collaboration.

India and Nepal’s longstanding defence partnership is built on shared history, mutual respect, and strategic cooperation, reflecting their commitment to regional stability and security.
