IMD Warns of Thunderstorms, Gusty Winds Across Odisha Till May 3

Bhubaneswar: A spell of unstable weather is set to impact large parts of Odisha, with the India Meteorological Department issuing a yellow warning for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds likely to continue till May 3.

As per the latest forecast, districts such as Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Gajapati, Rayagada, and Koraput may witness thunderstorms with lightning and wind speeds of 30–40 kmph, particularly during afternoon and evening hours.

Weather conditions are also expected to remain uncomfortable in several coastal and adjoining districts, including Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, and Ganjam, where hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail over the next two days.

The IMD has further indicated a possibility of stronger thunderstorm activity across a wider region, with wind speeds potentially reaching 40–50 kmph. Areas including Kalahandi, Nuapada, Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, and Deogarh are likely to be affected during this period.

Residents have been advised to stay alert, avoid open spaces during lightning, and take necessary precautions to ensure safety. Authorities have also urged people to keep track of official updates as weather conditions may change rapidly.
