IMD Predicts Wet Spell Over Odisha This Weekend Due to Low-Pressure Formation

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a wet spell over Odisha this weekend due to the likely formation of a low-pressure area over coastal Bangladesh and its surrounding regions. The system, currently marked by an upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above sea level, is expected to develop into a low-pressure zone within the next 24 hours.

As per the IMD’s afternoon bulletin, the cyclonic circulation lies over southeast Bangladesh as of Thursday morning and is projected to slowly move west-northwestwards, intensifying into a depression over coastal West Bengal and the northwest Bay of Bengal during the following 48 hours.

The resultant weather system is likely to bring widespread rain to Odisha from Friday through Sunday. The state is expected to experience light to moderate rainfall across various districts, especially in the northern regions.

Squally Weather Along Odisha Coast

The IMD has also issued warnings of squally weather along the Odisha coast, with wind speeds reaching up to 50 kmph over the North Bay of Bengal during the weekend. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea during this period due to rough sea conditions.

District-Wise Forecast:

• Day 1 (Sept 13-14): Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected in most districts of Odisha.
• Day 2 (Sept 14-15): Rainfall is likely across most districts of North Odisha, with moderate showers in many parts of South Odisha.
• Day 3 (Sept 15-16): The northern districts will continue to receive moderate rain, while southern areas may see light showers in some places.

With the monsoon current strengthening, the IMD has urged residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas during the forecasted period. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of people living in coastal regions.
