IMD Predicts Cyclonic Circulation Over Bay of Bengal, Odisha to Experience Rainfall

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted the development of a cyclonic circulation over the North Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal by October 20. This system is expected to intensify into a low-pressure area by October 22, according to Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar.

While the IMD has not yet indicated any major storm threat, Mohanty noted that several districts in Odisha are likely to experience rainfall on October 23 and 24 due to the influence of this developing low-pressure system.

Weather expert Sarat Chandra Sahu elaborated on the situation, explaining that the upper air cyclonic circulation is moving swiftly and could potentially make landfall in Odisha, West Bengal, or Bangladesh on October 23 or 24. He added that by the time the system reaches land, it could strengthen into either a deep depression or a marginal cyclone.

Coastal districts including Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Dhenkanal may be impacted by rainfall under the influence of this system, according to Sahu’s predictions.

The IMD is closely monitoring the situation, and further updates regarding the intensity and trajectory of the system will be provided in the coming days. Authorities are advising residents in coastal areas to stay updated on weather advisories and take necessary precautions.
