IMD Issues Orange and Yellow Warnings for Heavy Rainfall in Odisha for next two days

Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Orange and Yellow warnings for thunderstorm and heavy rainfall in multiple districts of Odisha for the next two days, cautioning residents to stay prepared for adverse weather conditions.

According to the IMD, thunderstorm with lightning, gusty surface wind speeds reaching 45-55 kmph, and hail are likely to occur at one or two places over districts including Bolangir, Sonepur, Kalahandi, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Jajpur. Additionally, thunderstorm with lightning and heavy rainfall ranging from 7 cm to 11 cm are expected in districts such as Cuttack, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Khordha, and Dhenkanal.

Over the past 12 hours, several areas of Odisha experienced medium to heavy rainfall attributed to the impact of the norwester. Districts including Khordha, Sambalpur, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Puri received showers, providing relief from the prevailing heatwave conditions.

In light of the forecasted weather conditions, the IMD has also issued Yellow Warnings for several districts. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speeds reaching 30-40 kmph are expected at one or two places in districts like Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Gajapati, Sundargarh, and Deogarh. Additionally, thunderstorm with lightning is likely to occur in the rest of the districts across Odisha.

Residents and authorities in the affected districts are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during the anticipated thunderstorm and heavy rainfall. It is recommended to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and secure outdoor objects to prevent any potential damage. Keeping abreast of updates from the IMD and local authorities will be crucial to stay informed about the evolving weather situation.
