IMD Forecast: Hailstorm and Rainfall Expected in Parts of Odisha On March 19

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast predicting hailstorm, rainfall, and lightning accompanied by gusty surface winds in some districts of Odisha on March 19.

According to the mid-day bulletin released by the IMD center, the trough from south Odisha to sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, situated at 0.9 Km above mean sea level, is becoming less marked. As a result, hailstorms, rainfall with lightning, and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 40-50 KMPH are expected in one or two places over some districts of Odisha.

The bulletin also reported appreciable falls in maximum temperatures at one or two places in the districts of Odisha, with temperatures observed to be below normal at a few places over Coastal Odisha and above normal at one or two places over Interior Odisha. Meanwhile, there was no large change in the minimum temperatures observed across the state.

The highest maximum temperature of 37.7°C was recorded at Boudh, while the lowest minimum temperature of 19.5°C was recorded at Nabarangpur in the plains of Odisha.

Weather Forecast for Odisha Districts:

Sunday (Valid up to 0830 hrs IST of 18.03.2024):

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely in districts including Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri, among others.
Dry weather is expected to prevail in the rest of the districts.
Yellow Warning (Be Updated): Thunderstorm with lightning is expected in several districts including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khurda, and Dhenkanal.

Monday (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 18.03.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 19.03.2024):

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected in South Odisha, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Boudh districts, among others.
Thunderstorms with lightning are expected in various districts including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Angul.
The IMD has advised residents to stay updated and take necessary precautions as per the warnings issued.
