Goa: The 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) witnessed an engaging press conference today as the cast and crew of Pune Highway came together to discuss the making of the emotional thriller. Directed and written by Rahul DaCunha and Bugs Bhargava, the film explores the fragility of friendships when tested by unexpected challenges, weaving together nostalgia, suspense, and poignant drama.

Originally a one-room play performed in nine countries, Pune Highway underwent a creative transformation to embrace the cinematic format. “We had to reimagine the intimate nature of the play for cinema while retaining its core emotions,” shared Rahul DaCunha. “It’s a story about friendships and the hidden fractures beneath the surface.”

Co-director Bugs Bhargava emphasized the collaborative effort behind the film’s creation. “This film is a labor of love, combining years of storytelling experience and a determination to craft something universally resonant,” he said.

The haunting visuals of Pune Highway and its gripping narrative have left a lasting impression on audiences, promising to linger well beyond the closing credits.

Renowned actor Amit Sadh reflected on his challenging role, describing it as one of the most rewarding experiences of his career. “It’s a story that speaks to anyone who has ever valued friendship,” he said. Manjari Fadnis, another key cast member, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the film’s universal appeal. “Pune Highway is more than just a thriller; it’s a poignant exploration of human relationships and the choices we make when faced with life-altering events,” she added.

Producer Seema Mahapatra praised the film’s relatability across cultures. “This is a story that resonates because it’s about relationships and the decisions that define us,” she said. Co-producer Jahanara Bhargava hinted at a sequel, promising to delve deeper into the lives of the characters and the mysteries left unresolved.

The filmmakers are optimistic about Pune Highway’s future beyond the festival circuit, with plans for a global release to connect with audiences worldwide. “We’re excited to share Pune Highway with the world. It’s a story that deserves to be told and heard by everyone,” said Jahanara Bhargava.

As a standout entry at this year’s IFFI, Pune Highway has redefined Indian cinema’s approach to portraying friendships, intertwining emotional depth with suspense to create a narrative that is both universal and unforgettable.
