ICU Capacity at Bhubaneswar’s Capital Hospital to Expand to 40 Beds

Bhubaneswar: The Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar is set to expand its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) capacity from 16 beds to 40, marking a significant boost to its critical care facilities.

The decision was announced by Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi, chairperson of the hospital’s Rogi Kalyan Samiti (Patient Welfare Committee), following a governing body meeting of the committee on Tuesday. MP Sarangi confirmed that the additional 24 beds would be made available soon to cater to the growing healthcare demands in the city.

Highlighting other key resolutions from the meeting, Sarangi noted that the hospital would also increase the number of dialysis sittings per bed. Currently managing 1,432 dialysis cases daily, the hospital operates three sittings per bed. Plans are underway to raise this to four sittings, enhancing the capacity to provide life-saving treatments.

Further, the Mission Shakti Cafe, located on the hospital campus and currently closed, is slated for reopening. It will be handed over to a self-help group (SHG) to ensure its efficient operation. Additionally, the hospital’s ongoing construction projects will be expedited to facilitate early completion and improved infrastructure.

The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including the Ekamara MLA, Bhubaneswar (Central) MLA, the Khurda Collector, and senior officials of the hospital.
