Historic Victory: Hsieh Su-wei and Jan Zielinski wins Mixed Doubles at Australian Open

Melbourne: In a historic championship clash featuring two top-four seeded teams at Melbourne Park after 23 years, Hsieh Su-wei and Jan Zielinski secured a triumphant win in the mixed doubles event.

The No.3 seeds engaged in a thrilling battle against second seeds American Desirae Krawczyk and Brit Neal Skupski, ultimately prevailing 6-7(5-7), 6-4, 11-9 in a high-quality final at Rod Laver Arena.

In a high-pressure match tiebreak, Hsieh and Zielinski saved a championship point, demonstrating resilience before securing victory in just under two hours. The duo overcame a 2-4 deficit in the second set and navigated a tense 7-4 advantage in the thrilling match tiebreak, as reported by Aus Open.

This victory marks the first major mixed doubles title for both Hsieh, aged 38, and Zielinski, aged 27. Hsieh’s achievement makes her the first player from Chinese Taipei to claim an Australian Open mixed doubles title, while Zielinski enters the annals of history as the first Polish player to secure a major mixed doubles crown.

The excitement continues for Hsieh as she has the opportunity to clinch another Australian Open title on Sunday, teaming up with Belgium’s Elise Mertens in the women’s doubles final.
