New Delhi: A government panel studying side-effects of Covid-19 vaccine has confirmed the first death due to anaphylaxis post vaccination.
The panel carried out an assessment of 31 serious Adverse Events Following Immunisation (AEFI) reported cases after Covid-19 vaccination.
As per the report of the panel, a 68 year old man died on March 31 due to anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction) after vaccination on March 8.
“It is the first death linked to Covid-19 vaccination due to anaphylaxis. The need to wait for 30 minutes at the inoculation centre after receiving the jab is important. Most of the anaphylactic reactions occur during this period and prompt treatment could prevent deaths” said Dr NK Arora, chairperson, National AEFI Committee.
According to Arora, three cases of anaphylaxis were reported half an hour after the shot of which one died.
The committee has examined five such cases that took place on February 5, eight cases on March 9 and 18 cases on March 31.
