Govt Approves Development of Tribal Homestays Under Swadesh Darshan Scheme

New Delhi: The Government has approved a new initiative to develop tribal homestays under the Swadesh Darshan scheme as part of the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan, aiming to promote responsible tourism and enhance livelihood opportunities for tribal communities.

The initiative includes the development of 1,000 homestays in tribal areas with financial support of up to ₹5 lakh per unit for new constructions, ₹3 lakh for renovations, and an additional ₹5 lakh for village community requirements.

The Ministry of Tourism has formulated draft guidelines for the project and circulated them for consultation. These guidelines emphasize technical up-skilling and training for homestay owners, ensuring that tribal communities can effectively manage and benefit from the initiative.

The information was provided by Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. The scheme is expected to boost rural tourism, preserve tribal heritage, and provide sustainable economic opportunities in tribal regions across India.
