Government to Launch Digital India futureLABS and India Semiconductor Research Centre
Bengaluru: Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Electronics and Information Technology, and Jal Shakti, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, addressed the IESA Vision Summit 2024 virtually in Bengaluru. During his address, he unveiled the government’s vision for the electronics manufacturing ecosystem and announced two significant initiatives – the India Semiconductor Research Centre and Digital India futureLABS.
Shri Chandrasekhar stated, “We will establish the India Semiconductor Research Centre shortly, which will serve as a hub for semiconductor innovation spanning all spectrums that will drive future systems.” He further announced the upcoming program, Digital India futureLABS, a collaborative initiative involving government labs, Indian startups, large enterprises, and corporations in the electronics space. The program aims to focus on designing and innovating systems for the future.
The Digital India futureLABS initiative is designed to enhance India’s Electronics & IT sector by creating a research and innovation framework. It will promote leadership in standards, IPs, systems, and platforms while fostering collaboration between government labs, startups, enterprises, and academia. C-DAC will serve as the nodal agency, with a focus on sectors like Automotive, Mobility, Compute, Communication, Strategic Electronics, and Industrial IoT.
Highlighting Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision for the electronics manufacturing ecosystem, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar emphasized India’s progress in establishing a thriving innovation ecosystem. He noted the success in catalyzing startups and large enterprises, especially in the consumer internet space. The Minister highlighted the deep tech initiative to expand the semiconductor ecosystem, ensuring future systems meet the performance requirements driven by increased digitization globally.
The announcement aligns with the government’s commitment to fostering technological progress, driving sustainable growth, and positioning India as a leader in the electronics and semiconductor domain.
