Government Initiative Brings Weekend Movie Magic to Anwesha Hostel Students

Bhubaneswar: The ST & SC Development, Minorities, and Backward Classes Welfare Department has embarked on an innovative initiative to reduce burden and add enjoyment for the students residing in the Anwesha hostels during weekends. This new program arranges for movie screenings tailored for children, transforming weekends into an educational and entertaining experience.

Officials and hostel superintendents have been briefed on this initiative, receiving a curated list of age-appropriate, children-oriented, educational, and motivational films. These movies are shown on television sets installed in the hostel common rooms every weekend. The goal is to provide entertainment while also imparting valuable lessons that contribute to a holistic understanding of society and shaping their world view from such a formative age.

The department recently shared a glimpse of this initiative on its ‘X’ account, showcasing children engrossed in a motivational film at the Anwesha hostel in Gajapati and other districts. The post highlighted the dual benefits of movies, emphasizing that they are not just a medium of entertainment but also a tool for enhancing societal understanding. “Movies are not just a medium of entertainment, they add to the holistic understanding of society. Children in Anwesha Gajapati immersed in a motivational movie this weekend,” read the post.

Another post reiterated the educational benefits of this initiative: “ST and SC students in ANWESHA hostels watching age-appropriate movies on the weekend. This would help them hone their linguistic skills and creativity and deepen textbook understanding.”

Anwesha is a state-government scheme designed to provide English medium education to ST & SC students from Class-I to Class-X. The scheme includes residential facilities and other amenities aimed at the holistic growth of students in these hostels. This movie initiative is a part of the comprehensive approach to education and personal development that Anwesha champions.

By integrating entertainment with education, the ST & SC Development, Minorities, and Backward Classes Welfare Department is not only enriching the students’ weekends but also fostering a more engaging and dynamic learning environment.
