Government Holds Meeting with Political Party Leaders Ahead of Interim Budget Session

New Delhi: A meeting of the government with floor leaders of all political parties was convened under the chairmanship of Shri Rajnath Singh, Minister of Defence, today. Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Pralhad Joshi, informed that the Interim Budget Session of Parliament for 2024 will commence on January 31 and may conclude on February 9, providing eight sittings over a ten-day period.

The primary focus of the session will be on the Financial Business related to the Interim Union Budget for the year 2024-25 and discussions on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address. Essential legislative and other business will also be addressed. Supplementary Demands for Grants for the Year 2023-24 concerning the Union Government will be discussed and voted upon. Additionally, the presentation and discussion on the Interim Budget of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir for 2024-25, along with Supplementary Demands for Grants of Union Territory, will be taken up and voted upon.

Shri Pralhad Joshi assured that the government is open to discussing any issue on the floor of the House as permitted under the Rules of Procedure. He requested active cooperation and support from all party leaders for the smooth functioning of both Houses of Parliament. The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution & Textiles, Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Law and Justice; Minister of State in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs & Minister of State in the Ministry of Culture, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Minister of State in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs & Minister of State in the Ministry of External Affairs, Shri V. Muraleedharan.

Shri Rajnath Singh, concluding the meeting, thanked the leaders for raising important issues and urged cooperation for a productive parliamentary session.

The meeting was attended by leaders from thirty political parties, totaling forty-five participants.
