Bhubaneswar: Customs officials at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar thwarted an attempt to smuggle gold worth approximately Rs 70 lakh. The passenger, who had arrived from Bangkok, attempted to evade detection by concealing around 1 kg of gold capsules in his rectum.
The intricate smuggling attempt was discovered during a routine security check at the airport. Despite initial screenings with metal detectors, the gold capsules remained undetected. However, acting on specific intelligence, customs officials conducted a thorough examination inside the washroom, where they uncovered the concealed gold hidden in the passenger’s rectum.
Upon interrogation, the passenger failed to provide satisfactory explanations, leading to his immediate arrest by the authorities. The smuggler was en route to Mumbai from Bangkok when the attempt was intercepted.
