
New Delhi: The fourth phase of polling in the General Elections 2024, spanning across 10 States and Union Territories, witnessed an approximate voter turnout of 62.84% by 8 PM, according to Election Commission data. Polling, which commenced at 7 AM today across 96 Parliamentary Constituencies (PCs), concluded at 6 PM, although many voters remained in queues at polling stations.
The Election Commission, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, ensured a smooth and peaceful polling process. Stringent security measures were in place to create a conducive environment for voters to cast their ballots without fear or intimidation.
In the Kashmir valley, voting took place for the Srinagar PC amidst ample security arrangements. Voters queued up peacefully at various polling stations to exercise their democratic right. Additionally, polling time in certain assembly segments of 17 Parliamentary Constituencies of Telangana was extended by the Commission to increase voter participation.
As per the State-wise approximate voter turnout data, Andhra Pradesh recorded 68.12%, Bihar 55.90%, Jammu and Kashmir 36.58%, Jharkhand 63.37%, Madhya Pradesh 68.63%, Maharashtra 52.75%, Odisha 63.85%, Telangana 61.39%, Uttar Pradesh 57.88%, and West Bengal 75.94%.
With the conclusion of phase four, polling for General Elections has crossed the halfway mark, covering 23 States/UTs and 379 PCs. General Elections for State Legislative Assemblies of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh, and 28 assembly seats of Odisha State Assembly have been completed.
