Bhubaneswar: A high-level review meeting on the Gangua Nala Improvement Project was convened at Kharavela Bhavan on Tuesday, with Housing & Urban Development Minister Dr. Krishna Chandra Mohapatra chairing discussions aimed at fast-tracking major urban infrastructure upgrades in the city.
The meeting placed special emphasis on the integrated development of Nicco Park and its surrounding precincts, alongside the strengthening of stormwater management systems to address Bhubaneswar’s persistent drainage challenges. Senior leaders including MLA Babu Singh, Principal Secretary of H&UD Usha Padhee, BMC Commissioner-cum-BDA Vice Chairman Sri Chanchal Rana, and officials from associated departments were present.
Opening the review, Dr. Mohapatra urged officials to expedite execution so that impactful improvements are visible before the monsoon season. He stressed that redevelopment of the Nicco Park zone, enhancement of public amenities, and ecological restoration of the Gangua Nala must progress in a synchronised manner to ensure long-term urban resilience.
Principal Secretary Padhee highlighted the need for strong inter-agency coordination to deliver effective drainage solutions, while BMC Commissioner Sri Rana detailed the ongoing work, existing hurdles, and the revised timelines for completion.
Dr. Mohapatra directed all departments to clear pending issues without delay and prioritise safety, cleanliness, and accessibility in every component of the project. The meeting concluded with a commitment to continuous monitoring, strict quality control, and adherence to deadlines to ensure timely transformation of the Gangua Nala corridor and adjoining public spaces.
