New Delhi: In a historic move, six Indian individuals will join the French military team marching down the majestic Kartavya Path alongside Indian contingents at the 75th Republic Day parade on Friday. The parade, scheduled for January 26, will be a women-centric event, featuring an all-women tri-services contingent for the first time.
The French President, Emmanuel Macron, will be the Chief Guest at the Republic Day celebrations. A 95-member marching contingent and a 33-member band contingent from France will participate in the parade. Additionally, two Rafale fighters and an Airbus A330 multi-role tanker transport aircraft from the French air force will be showcased.
The Indian contingent for the French team comprises Chief Corporal Sujan Pathak, Corporal Dipak Arya, Corporal Parbin Tandan, First Class Legionnaire Gurvachan Singh, First Class Legionnaire Aniket Ghartimagar, and First Class Legionnaire Vikas Djeassegar.
The parade aims to be women-centric, with an all-women tri-services contingent participating. Major General Sumit Mehta, the chief of staff of the Army’s Delhi area headquarters, stated that 80% of the activities at the parade would be carried out by women.
The parade will feature Lieutenants Deepti Rana and Priyanka Sevda, leading the Swathi weapon locating radar and Pinaka rocket system, marking another historic first. Both officers were commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery for the first time last year.
Major General Mehta highlighted that the parade would showcase an array of indigenously developed weaponry and military equipment, including missiles, drone jammers, surveillance systems, vehicle-mounted mortars, BMP-II infantry combat vehicles, and more.
The Republic Day parade will commence with 100 women artists playing Indian musical instruments, setting a unique tone for the event. The celebrations will conclude with a flypast by 46 aircraft of the Indian Air Force, featuring 29 fighter jets, seven transport aircraft, nine helicopters, and one heritage plane.
This year’s parade signifies a momentous occasion with significant representation of women and international collaboration, reflecting the spirit of unity and diversity.
