
700-plus students receive PG Diplomas, at 55th Convocation of Indian Institute of Mass Communication
New Delhi: The 55th convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) unfolded today at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, with distinguished guest and former President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, presiding as the Chief Guest. The ceremony witnessed the conferment of postgraduate diplomas upon over 700 students from IIMC’s various campuses, including Delhi, Dhenkanal, Aizawl, Amravati, Kottayam, and Jammu. The graduates, belonging to the batches of 2021–22 and 2022–23, received accolades in diverse disciplines such as Hindi Journalism, English Journalism, Odia Journalism, Marathi Journalism, Malayalam Journalism, Urdu Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations, Radio and Television Journalism, and Digital Media.
The convocation also served as a platform to honor 65 students from these batches with various awards, recognizing their exceptional contributions.
Former President Ram Nath Kovind addressed the graduating students, acknowledging the global challenge posed by deepfakes, fake news, and misinformation. He emphasized the collective responsibility to combat these issues and uphold the integrity of information disseminated through media channels.
In his address, Shri Kovind urged the budding journalists to refrain from sensationalizing news for the sake of higher TRPs. He underscored the significance of preserving the core values of journalism, emphasizing the vital role the media plays in shaping public opinion and fostering a well-informed society.
The ceremony was marked by a sense of accomplishment and enthusiasm among the graduating students as they embarked on their professional journeys, equipped with the knowledge and skills acquired during their tenure at IIMC. The event served not only as a celebration of academic achievements but also as a reminder of the ethical responsibilities that accompany a career in journalism.
