DPIIT Hosts Startup India Innovation Week 2024: Celebrating Eight Years of Startup Ecosystem

New Delhi: The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, hosts the Startup India Innovation Week 2024, a week-long celebration aimed at uniting startups, entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, and stakeholders. The event, scheduled from January 10th to 18th, 2024, will culminate with the National Startup Day on January 16th, 2024.

The Innovation Week seeks to foster collaboration and showcase the vibrancy of India’s startup ecosystem. Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh, Secretary, DPIIT, will kick off the festivities with an inaugural address at the Startup Seminar titled ‘Startups Unlocking Infinite Potential’ on January 11th, 2024, at the Tenth Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

The highlight of the celebration is the National Startup Day on January 16th, 2024. DPIIT will host the result declaration and felicitation ceremony for the National Startup Awards 2023 and the 4th edition of the States’ Startup Ranking Framework. These initiatives, flagship components of Startup India, aim to recognize outstanding startups and ecosystem enablers contributing to innovation, employment generation, and wealth creation.

Physical events will be organized nationwide by incubators, featuring workshops, mentorship sessions, stakeholder round tables, and panel discussions. Eight virtual Ask Me Anything (AMA) live sessions will engage with various stakeholders, including incubators, investors, mentors, unicorns, corporates, startups, academia, and government, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

Additionally, five mentorship sessions focused on ‘How to Start Up’ are planned, catering to aspiring entrepreneurs and student entrepreneurs. These sessions will cover crucial topics such as understanding business structures, incorporation processes, and business plan development.

The Startup India initiative, launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on January 16, 2016, aims to build a robust ecosystem nurturing innovation, boosting startups, and encouraging investments. Recognizing the significant contribution of startups, Prime Minister Modi declared January 16th as the National Startup Day in 2022.

As India commemorates eight years of the Startup India initiative, the ecosystem has witnessed remarkable growth, with over 1,17,000 recognized startups, showcasing the nation’s entrepreneurial spirit. The initiative aligns with the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, the Prime Minister’s call to transform India into a developed nation by 2047.

The National Startup Awards recognize outstanding startups and ecosystem enablers demonstrating innovative products or solutions and scalable enterprises with the potential for employment generation and wealth creation. The States’ Startup Ranking evaluates States and UTs on their efforts to build a conducive ecosystem for startup growth, fostering competitiveness among states.

DPIIT is also collaborating with the Department of Youth Affairs to promote the Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) initiative. During the Innovation Week, outreach activities for MY Bharat will be conducted to encourage entrepreneurship among the youth of the nation.
